CANstruction
Draper Aden Associates put their engineering skills to work for the hungry in the Annual Richmond CANstruction Competition. Our “Mr. Potato Head” was made completely out of canned food. Not only did we have a good time, but our efforts contributed to over 83,000 pounds of food collected for the Central Virginia Food Bank. We were also presented with the highly coveted Rookie of the Year Award!
CANstruction, Inc. is a not-for-profit foundation that provides a unique way to help feed hungry people via its numerous nationwide competitions. Using only cans of food as their medium, hundreds of competing teams showcase their talents by designing and building giant sculptures.
At present, CANstruction events are held in 45 cities across North America. These competitions result in raising more than one million pounds of canned food each year. These competitions demonstrate that, through imagination and creativity, everyone can contribute toward solving the issue of hunger in our society. After a week of display, all canned goods are donated to the Food Bank.
