18th Annual Polar Plunge - Special Olympics
On February 6th, 10 members of Team DAA headed to Virginia Beach and took a plunge in the Atlantic Ocean to support Special Olympics Virginia at their 18th Annual Polar Plunge Event. Team DAA consisted of Stede Barnes, Mike Haggerty, Victor Valenzuela, Amanda Tolson, Jenny Bunting, Courtney Wilson, Allyson Moorefield, Scott Smith, Matt Overton and Scott Schiller. Honorable mention to Sheryl Stephens and Jeff Lighthiser, who both did a great job fundraising and special thanks to Susan Strong, who braved the elements and provided support on Plunge day by taking pictures and keeping our spirits up.
All together, Team DAA raised an amazing $4,965 and came in 17th place overall for team fundraising. The event as a whole included 2,636 plungers and raised $871,000 and counting! This is incredible considering not only the weather (low 30’s, snow and cold rain, 5-foot swells, and wind gusts up to 50 mph), but a lower number of plungers this year. With all that, they still raised more money than last year!
