Design, permitting and construction management of a solid waste baling and materials processing facility for Watauga County, the Cities of Boone and Blowing Rock, and Appalachian State University was requested. A 22,000 sf facility was created including tipping floor, baling floor, recycling processing area and loading dock. A treatment / management analysis for facility wastewater was conducted, and design of a treatment system for baler squeezings performed.

As the commitment to recycling increased, the County decided to convert the transfer station to a recycling facility, requiring design and construction of a new transfer station facility and maintenance facilities. Site selection and design were completed and the team provided construction bidding and monitoring services for a 14,000 sf transfer station complete with truck-bay scales, heating, and a specially designed tipping floor. The maintenance building is approximately 7,000 sf with two bays and the capability for work on either heavy equipment or refuse collection vehicles.
