Brownfields

Simply stated, a brownfield, is a property previously used for industrial purposes, or certain commercial uses, and that may be contaminated by low concentrations of hazardous waste or pollution and has the potential to be reused once it is cleaned up. Land that is more severely contaminated, such as Superfund or hazardous waste sites, does not fall under the brownfield classification. It is estimated that there are over 450,000 brownfields in the United States.
Draper Aden Associates is highly experienced in performing investigations of soil and groundwater contamination and implementing the subsequent remedial actions. Our team handles every aspect arising from these investigation projects, from initial client contact, elaboration of proposals and reports, sampling and analytical campaigns, contacting the authorities and execution of remedial projects. Key challenges in brownfields redevelopment include environmental liability concerns; financial barriers; cleanup considerations; and reuse planning. The redevelopment process usually follows four steps:
- predevelopment;
- securing the deal;
- cleanup and development, and
- property management.
Whether your project is large or small, straightforward or complex, Draper Aden Associates has full service brownfields capabilities. We can take your project from concept through construction to operation, or we can provide support at any step along the way.
