Utilities Team Builds on History of Innovation

Creating a Lasting Positive Impact is more than a mission for us, it’s at the very core of what we do at Draper Aden Associates. It’s always fulfilling to know that our talented team members leave enduring effects in our local communities. One example of Draper Aden serving communities is through our Utilities Engineering Services.   Our Utilities Engineering Division has completed hundreds of projects in the areas of wastewater treatment and collection, water source development, pumping, treatment, transmission, storage, and distribution. Led by our new Utilities Division Team Leader Aziz Ahmed, P.E., ENV-SP, our team of experts offer extensive insight into what is buildable and realistic, as well as what can be done to improve facility design and operation.   Let’s take a look at three Utilities Engineering signature projects that are great examples of accomplishing our mission in the communities in which we live, work and play:   City of Staunton Sewer Assessment: The...

EJ TODAA: Engineering the Experience of Excellence

Throughout my athletic career, I am grateful to have played football on every level, from high school to the NFL. I have seen a lot of different playing surfaces and have experienced the atmosphere of several different stadiums. When it was fourth and goal in the last minute of a game that decided our bowl eligibility, I was not thinking about the design and planning efforts it took for me to stand on the field safely. I was thinking about my teammates, the fans who cheered us on, and the coaches who had prepared us for that exact moment. Everyone in attendance during a game is on the edge of their seats, entirely focused on the one potentially season-changing play, not on the design of the field. This is where Draper Aden Athletics comes in. Draper Aden Athletics creates athletic facilities that provide these edge-of-your-seat experiences and memories that are...

EJ TODAA: How DAA’s Services and Technologies Unify

Jeremy Dunn, Project Surveyor, and David Barton, Director of Aerial Services, both of whom work on our ALM (Advanced Locating and Mapping) team spent time with me recently to discuss some of the unique services DAA offers its clients. I was stoked to accompany them in the field as Jeremy and David tested out our newest piece of aerial equipment. The ALM team is equipped with innovative technologies that allow us to collect information about a site faster and more efficiently than ever before by using drones and laser scanning. Drones allow us to perform thermal imaging, assess the health and viability of vegetation, and create highly accurate point butts of sites and structures during aerial surveys. Drones can be used for precision agriculture by assessing weed encroachment and the stress of plants. Some tractors have GPS capability, so the drone would identify the vegetation that isn’t healthy, and the tractor would...
