What 3 words would you use to describe working at DAA?
Challenging, Rewarding, Purposeful
Favorite thing about working at DAA?
The great people and the true commitment to providing the best services to clients, the best work environment for employees and the best support to our communities. The true commitment to excellence in all that we do!!!
In your experience here, is there a project that really stands out/was your favorite/was challenging?
The most important aspect of my work this year is transforming the culture – working with the Culture & Communications Committee members, CEO, and COO to drive the change to a values-based culture.
Favorite quote or words of wisdom?
There are also two pearls of wisdom from my mother and mother-in-law that have helped me and many with whom I have shared them:
My mother in law gave me this advance early in my marriage when my husband was suddenly hospitalized: “If you are going to worry, don’t pray; and if you are going to pray, don’t worry.”
My mother also gave me advice when I was in kindergarten:
“Good, better, best
Never let it rest.
Until your good is better and your better is best!”
What TV show, movie, or book are you obsessed with right now?
Right now I am obsessed with Hallmark Christmas movies. I can’t watch anything else during this time of year. I love to read and will be reading a new book that I am really excited about entitled “A Chance in the World”. I heard the author speak at the Virginia School Board Association conference and ordered the book to read while I am on vacation for Christmas.
Have you been on a recent vacation or trip that you loved?
My favorite place is Holden Beach, NC. However, my most recent trip was to Michigan for Thanksgiving and to celebrate my triplet niece’s (Kendall) and nephews’ (Brandon & Benjamin) thirteenth birthday the day after Thanksgiving. It was very special to be able to celebrate the first teenage birthday with them.
What was the first concert you ever attended?
John Denver in 1976. The Starlight Band opened for him.
Favorite sports team?
Is there something you have done that would surprise people?
I love to sing though I have no talent in that area. However, when I am in my car travelling on 81 or 64, I belt out the songs (Motown, country, pop). In my next life, I will be a back-up singer.
