Rehrig International Manufacturing Facility

[vc_row content_aligment="center"][vc_column][vc_column_text] The Rehrig International (RI) project represents an excellent example of a technically complex remediation project involving an equally complicated array of public agencies. RI operated a nickel-chromium metal plating and plastic extrusion facility in Chesterfield County, between 2001 and 2008. In 2008, the facility was ordered to be shut down. The owner of the property subsequently entered into a Consent Agreement with EPA to remove hazardous wastes and other materials from the property.   On behalf of the Owner, Draper Aden directed the EPA removal action and provided a broad spectrum of services to the facility. These services included assisting in negotiating a Removal Action Consent Agreement with EPA, serving as liaison between the owner and various local agencies, preparing inventories and assessments of hazardous wastes, managing the cleanup of the property, conducting post-closure assessment, assessing risk to human health as attributed to residual nickel in soils and groundwater beneath building,...

Puc Systems Operations Center (3)

Public Utility Company System Operations Center

[vc_row content_aligment="center"][vc_column][vc_column_text] This project was a fast-track, design-build facility on a 70-acre site in the Richmond area. This is a high security facility with a guard and screening station, secure parking areas, and loading facilities for deliveries and fuel supply for stand-by on-site power generation. The building had a footprint of just over 100,000 GSF and has redundant utility services. Also included was the four-laning of approximately 4,000 feet of an adjoining street and extensive water system improvements for the County.   Draper Aden performed surveying, structural engineering, site planning and engineering, construction stakeout, and selective construction inspections for a confidential control center. Preliminary services included the comprehensive site selection and due diligence process, evaluation of four individual parcels in two counties, preparation of due diligence studies with associated layouts, opinion of probable costs, assistance to the Public Utility Company (PUC) during the negotiations with the two counties over the two highest ranking...

Public Utility Company Underground Electric Distribution

[vc_row content_aligment="center"][vc_column][vc_column_text] Since 2015, Draper Aden Associates has continuously worked alongside a regional Public Utility Company, and its partners, to achieve the goal of converting certain existing outage-prone overhead electrical distribution lines underground to improve electric service and shorten restoration time following major storm events.   Acting as a representative for the Client, our team of experienced designers, right-of way (ROW) agents, and surveyors work to ensure the success of each project from design start all the way through constructions end.   When assigned a project a designer will visit the site to document and confirm the proposed route, while simultaneously the ROW and survey teams begin to pull title research for customers and provide field mapping services for the design. After the route is confirmed and the preliminary design is finalized, easements are created, and the ROW acquisition process will begin. During the ROW acquisition process, the designer will work closely with ROW to negotiate...

East End Theatre (4)

East End Theater Commercial Space and Apartments

[vc_row content_aligment="center"][vc_column][vc_column_text] Draper Aden Associates helped to preserve a community landmark through work on the neglected East End Theater in Richmond’s historical Church Hill neighborhood. We handled the structural engineering needs for the renovation as well as the expansion.   Since no documentation was available for the building, Draper Aden Associates utilized new technology to create an interactive building information model (BIM) for the structure. This scanning technology was critical to the project because it showed that, although the roof was gone, the roof framing could still be used, saving the developer $100,000 and making the renovation more feasible.   The firm utilized self-supporting floors in order to create commercial space and two floors of apartments. Challenged by poor soil conditions and the need to maintain the existing shell of the theater, Draper Aden Associates solved a variety of issues using innovative solutions and returned the theater to a vital community asset. After completion, the...
